Nyoman Sukartini, the artist behind this masterpiece, was taught by her mother from a young age how to be a "Balinese woman," which included learning to cook, do housework, and make offerings. At 16, she studied at SMIK (Sekolah Menengah Industri Kerajinan) in Gianyar, where she learned batik, ceramics, and other home industries. After school, she took an apprenticeship with a silversmith in a village that specialized in jewelry.
