About the Artist Desak Nyoman Parwati was born in Bali in 1972 and learned the art of batik from Desak Putu Nithi in 1989. She was inspired by her mentor's dedication and concern for the people she worked with. In 2000, Parwati started her own art workshop, creating a variety of dresses, sarongs, yoga pants, and robes from hand-painted batik textiles. She takes design inspiration from fashion magazines and adapts them to the Indonesian culture, working with materials like rayon, cotton, linen, and crinkle cloth.
