Abdul Razak’s journey into the world of crafts began with his father, a carver who introduced him to this intricate art form. Starting at the tender age of ten, he began honing his skills in sandpapering after school. As he mastered this technique, he progressed to cutting the brass and aluminum that embellish masks. Razak also received training in painting these masks and applying beads to them. The process of affixing beads can be quite challenging; however, it is the beauty and allure of the finished artwork that motivates him to repeatedly engage in this delicate task. After completing high school, he chose to pursue a career in this craft. Working alongside his father for a period, he gained the confidence to carve out his own path. While he operates from his father’s workshop, he has the freedom to sell his own designs and thus strives to create original styles.
