About this Item:
Hand-carved by the talented Daniel Nyadedzor, this remarkable mask features narrow eyes that possess a far-seeing quality, accompanied by a serious expression. The mask has a smooth, wide forehead adorned with embossed brass plates, which, along with its subtle color variations, adds a distinctive touch to its beauty. Known as "Tagbagya," meaning "flat-headed" in the Ewe language of Ghana, this mask symbolizes brilliance and excellence. It is often awarded to individuals who demonstrate outstanding academic achievements.
About the Artist:
Daniel Nyadedzor's journey began with a course in auto mechanics; however, finding a job proved challenging. The financial burden of the machinery required to establish his own workshop was beyond his and his parents’ means. Faced with these obstacles, he took on various menial jobs, saving every penny until he could purchase a small plot of land where he constructed a wooden store. In the evenings, he dedicated himself to learning the art of carving. His designs are inspired by dreams, and he ensures not to lose these creative ideas by sketching them immediately upon waking.
